Job Description:

Join the U.S. Consumer Services Control Management Specialized Risk Management team at American Express. This role involves supporting day-to-day activities related to operational risk management, ensuring compliance with enterprise policies, and assisting in the integration of decentralized risk types into broader Operational Risk Management (ORM) frameworks. This position requires collaboration across various business units, functional areas, and geographies.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in activities supporting compliance with enterprise policies and programs related to specific risk types (e.g., Third-Party Management policy).

  • Help integrate decentralized risk types into broader ORM policies and programs.

  • Compile topical risk information such as emerging trends, best practices, and regulatory updates.

  • Support the creation and delivery of targeted training and awareness programs to improve understanding of specialized risks.

  • Research and gather relevant risk knowledge to assist business units in strengthening operational risk management processes.

  • Support senior team members in designing and implementing controls tailored to specialized risk areas.

  • Gather and align operational risk insights and strategies with changes in business and regulatory environments.


Required Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years of experience in operational risk management (within Risk or Internal Audit functions).

  • Strong skills in project management, communication, and interpersonal relations.

  • Proficiency in process governance, establishing decision-making processes that align with policies, regulatory frameworks, and operational standards.

  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities with a focus on data analysis and trend identification.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Business, Risk Management, or related fields. Advanced degrees (e.g., MBA, MSc) or certifications are a plus.

  • Experience in compliance with enterprise policies, supporting the design/enhancement of procedures/standards, and advising on decentralized risk types.
