Job Description: Analyst – FX Exposure Identification CoE
The FX Exposure Identification Center of Excellence (CoE) is part of the Middle Office Controllership team within the Global Treasury Controllership Organization (GTO). This team is responsible for identifying, analyzing, and managing foreign currency (FX) exposure arising from ledger transactions and equity translation exposure related to American Express’ global subsidiaries.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify foreign currency exposure from ledger transactions and support GTO in hedging FX risks effectively.
- Prepare month-end FX exposure adequacy reports for multiple markets to ensure sufficient hedging across American Express.
- Account and report FX trades to hedge exposure from cross-currency transactions within American Express and its subsidiaries.
- Provide advisory support on companywide initiatives related to FX accounting.
- Support ongoing projects within the team and drive automation and process simplification.
- Maintain accounting controls to ensure compliance with SOX, Bank Holding Company regulations, and internal AXP guidelines.
- Lead and participate in projects related to Treasury and Business Partner initiatives, providing expertise on FX-related matters.
- Analyze FX-related P&L impacts and implement controls to mitigate financial risks.
Technical & Functional Skills
Technical Skills:
- Strong Accounting expertise, particularly in:
- ASC 830 (FAS 52) – Currency Remeasurement & Translation
- ASC 815 (FAS 133) – FX Hedge Accounting, Analysis, and Reporting
- Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Experience with Oracle Accounting and reporting tools is a plus.
Functional Skills:
- Ability to manage multiple priorities with excellent attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to connect business drivers.
- Effective communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders, auditors, and regulators.
- Relationship-building skills to collaborate across teams and influence without direct control.
- Quick learner with a proactive approach to process improvement.
