Role Overview

As part of the Credit and Fraud Risk Controllership (C&FRC) team, you will play a key role in safeguarding the financial integrity of American Express by supporting critical business functions through expert credit reserve modeling and comprehensive decision support services. This role involves proactively mitigating controllable financial risks and ensuring that AXP’s financial statements remain accurate and compliant.


Key Responsibilities

  • Credit Reserve Modeling and Financial Analysis:

    • Prepare accurate external footnote disclosures and regulatory filings for worldwide Modified Loans and Receivables.

    • Ensure the adequacy of credit reserves through rigorous analysis and modeling.

    • Lead quarterly financial analysis, extracting meaningful insights from complex data to inform strategic decisions.

  • Leadership & Presentations:

    • Develop and deliver compelling presentations to senior leadership on reserve adequacy and portfolio performance.

    • Provide expert business advisory support for new product initiatives, including financial implications, reserving, and disclosure requirements.

  • Process Optimization & Control Environment:

    • Drive process optimization initiatives while maintaining robust control frameworks.

    • Lead specialized projects focused on enhancing the control environment through deep-dive analyses.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:

    • Collaborate closely with Risk Finance, Credit and Fraud Risk, Global Finance Initiative, Integrity, Global Accounting Policy Advisory, External and Regulatory Reporting, AENB, Investor Relations, Technologies, and PwC.

    • Interact regularly with the Risk Finance & Credit and Fraud Risk team to analyze the performance of modified loans and receivables.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Educational Background:
    Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance, MBA, CA, or CPA certification.

  • Experience:
    Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in financial and accounting roles with strong technical knowledge of US GAAP.

  • Technical Skills:

    • Advanced proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, index-match functions, data visualization) and SQL (Yellow Brick/Python).

    • Experience with Oracle and Essbase/TM1 is highly desirable.

    • Ability to create compelling executive presentations using PowerPoint.

  • Financial Analysis:
    Strong financial analysis capabilities with experience in large-scale data interpretation and the ability to translate complex financial concepts into clear, actionable insights.

  • Problem Solving & Leadership:

    • Proven problem-solving skills and an analytical approach to business challenges.

    • Proactive mindset with the ability to take initiative and demonstrate thought leadership in developing value-added analysis.

  • Communication:
    Outstanding written and verbal communication abilities, including presenting to senior leadership.

  • Time Management & Organizational Skills:
    Ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines with excellent time management skills.
