Role Overview

As part of the Financial Accounting team, you will manage key financial processes, focusing on Cobrand arrangements, cost of card member services, and new business acquisitions accounting. This role ensures the reconciliation and reporting of financials while working with multiple business partners across American Express. You will play a key part in driving efficiencies and improving accounting processes, while maintaining strong governance and compliance with regulatory requirements.


Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Accounting Process Management:

    • End-to-end ownership of financial processes including Cost of Card Member Services, New Business Acquisitions, and Opex Accounting.

    • Ensure timely and accurate reporting, meeting Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and maintaining the integrity of financial information.

  • Reconciliation & Reporting:

    • Ensure compliance with US GAAP, Local GAAP, and IFRS accounting standards.

    • Proactively develop insights and trends to support financial decisions, forecasting, and planning for business partners.

  • Stakeholder Collaboration:

    • Work closely with various stakeholders, including Controllership, Business Finance, Audit, and Control groups, to ensure financial data integrity and compliance.

  • Problem-Solving & Data Management:

    • Apply analytical skills to resolve queries and manage large sets of data efficiently.

    • Ensure SOX compliance and uphold strong internal controls, especially related to accounting policies and regulatory requirements.

  • Continuous Improvement & Innovation:

    • Challenge the status quo and implement continuous improvements to financial processes and systems.

    • Work independently with minimal supervision while collaborating across multiple time zones.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Education:

    • Graduate/Post-Graduate in Commerce (B. Com/M. Com), with 1-3 years of experience in financial accounting.

  • Experience:

    • End-to-end understanding of AR/AP processes, accounting, and reconciliation.

    • Awareness of US GAAP, Local GAAP, and IFRS.

    • Experience in working with various business products and understanding their financial implications.

  • Skills & Competencies:

    • Strong knowledge of MS-Office applications, Oracle Applications, Essbase/Smart View.

    • Knowledge of SOX compliance and internal controls.

    • Analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to manage large datasets.

    • Ability to maintain financial/data integrity, ensure compliance with internal SLAs, and interpret contractual terms.

    • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present financial data and insights effectively.

  • Analytical Mindset:

    • Strong ability to challenge the status quo, identify improvements, and drive continuous enhancements in processes.

    • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and handle ambiguity effectively.

    • Quick learner with an eye for detail and a strong desire to grow within the finance function.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Education:

    • MBA (Finance) or CA is preferred.

  • Technical Skills:

    • Basic understanding of techno-finance or automation would be a plus.
