Position: Compliance and Safety Lead Engineer
Job Overview
The Compliance and Safety Lead Engineer ensures that project designs comply with:
- Arabelle Solutions’ engineering rules and processes
- Applicable contract, local Technical Regulations and Standards (TRS)
- Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) regulations and requirements
This role requires obtaining design approval from Notified Bodies (NoBos), Third Parties, and Country Authorities, while preparing technical and safety files for regulatory conformity.
Key Responsibilities
1. Compliance & Safety Engineering (CSE) Responsibilities
- Ensure that all engineering functions comply with company, project, regulatory, and contractual requirements.
- Apply compliance standards across all Arabelle Solutions’ products.
2. Support for Tendering
- Review RFQs to assess requirements, identify risks, and provide clarifications.
- Evaluate local country-specific regulations and expected deliverables.
- Estimate workload and feasibility of compliance-related tasks.
3. Project Initiation & Regulatory Compliance
- Define CSE document libraries, deliverables, and activities.
- Identify applicable regulations, codes, and standards.
- Issue technical specifications for regulatory compliance per project schedule.
- Conduct team training on compliance, safety, and environmental standards.
- Ensure engineering team adherence to planned compliance processes.
4. Execution of Projects
- Organize and participate in technical risk analysis reviews.
- Ensure that risk assessments from suppliers address operational safety concerns.
- Work with internal teams to edit regulatory risk analyses for Arabelle Solutions’ products.
- Support product engineers in applying EU and country regulations.
- Oversee NoBo/Third Party approvals during project execution.
- Track and implement updates to standards and regulations.
- Conduct CSE design reviews with NoBos, Third Parties, clients, or suppliers.
- Coordinate regulatory technical files for approval by authorities.
5. Certification & Documentation
- Verify compliance of technical data with EU and country-specific regulations.
- Collect technical information from internal teams and suppliers for certification.
- Produce complete regulatory technical files for Arabelle Solutions’ products.
- Conduct internal audits and assessments to ensure compliance with regulations.
6. On-time Delivery Responsibilities
- Ensure CSE setup completion within 3 months after LNTP/NTP.
- Deliver CSE activities as per Engineering Document Management (EDM) timelines.
- Provide monthly compliance progress reports.
Decision-Making Authority & Recommendations
- Authority:
- Make technical decisions when EU/national certification or EHS is impacted.
- Issue a hold point if product regulatory compliance is at risk.
- Recommendations:
- Advise on the selection of Notified Bodies (NoBos) or Third Parties.
- Support project engineering teams on compliance strategies.
Required Qualifications & Skills
1. Education
- Mandatory: Engineering degree or equivalent.
- Preferred: Degree in EHS and/or Quality Management.
2. Experience
- Mandatory:
- Plant Engineering Compliance or EHS experience.
- Knowledge of EU directives and regulations.
- Experience in standards requirement management.
- Nuclear safety training/awareness.
- Preferred:
- Experience in environmental studies.
- Familiarity with nuclear power plant standards and regulations.
3. Behavioral & Technical Skills
- Mandatory:
- Autonomous and proactive approach.
- Ability to interpret and apply foreign regulations.
- Problem-solving and risk assessment skills.
- Target-oriented and detail-focused.
- Preferred:
- Experience with EU certification processes.
- Familiarity with local regulations and compliance standards.
4. Language Skills
- Mandatory: English (Read, Write, Speak).
- Preferred: Additional foreign language skills.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Compliance & Safety Process KPI adherence.
- CSE setup completion within 3 months of LNTP/NTP.
- Timely submission of monthly progress reports.
- Resolution of compliance-related non-conformities (NCRs) and deviation change requests (DCRs).
Additional Job Characteristics
- Human Factor Analysis: Assess compliance impacts and initiate necessary adjustments.
- Site Visits & Coordination: Travel to supplier facilities, customer offices, and project sites as needed.
- Client Interaction: Coordinate with clients on project compliance and safety matters.
