Job Summary
The Supplier Performance Engineer (SPE) is a strategic role responsible for driving improvements in supplier performance management, ensuring best-in-class service levels. The SPE assesses supplier capabilities to meet performance, capability, and capacity requirements. This role collaborates closely with Category Managers, Buyers, and Supplier Quality Engineers to enhance supply chain efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Supplier Performance Management
- Ensure supplier performance meets or exceeds expectations throughout the relationship lifecycle.
- Responsible for:
- Supplier Delivery Performance (RDSL/PDSL – Request Date vs. Promised Date).
- Supplier Quality – Lot Acceptance and PPM measures.
- Develop and manage the global supply chain for raw materials and finished goods across Actuation sites.
Supplier Development & Improvement
- Lead supplier development efforts in Quality, Supply Chain Speed, Delivery, and Cost.
- Drive supplier improvement projects using Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and quality improvement tools (FMEA, MSA/Gage R&R, Control Plans, Capability Analysis, SPC, Root Cause Analysis, Process Mapping, etc.).
- Conduct supplier audits and reviews to identify areas for productivity gains.
- Assist in the feasibility study of parts development in the initial phase.
Strategic Sourcing & Risk Management
- Define and measure supplier performance through scorecards integrating sustainability, quality, operational, innovation, and financial metrics.
- Collaborate with Commodity Managers on risk management for short- and long-term material availability.
- Support and implement global commodity strategic sourcing programs.
- Work with suppliers to improve flexibility and quick response to global manufacturing sites.
- Work with Commodity Managers to achieve cost containment and inflation control goals.
Technical & Cross-Functional Support
- Provide technical expertise to internal teams and suppliers.
- Review engineering drawings, manufacturing processes, and material specifications to improve quality, cost, and manufacturability.
Qualifications & Skills
Essential Qualifications
- Business or technical degree required (Mechanical, IE, EE, BA, BS); MBA preferred.
- 5-10 years of experience in supplier improvement efforts with strong analytical, communication, project management, and decision-making skills.
Technical Skills
- Strong organizational and analytical skills.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, quality systems requirements, and customer specifications.
- Understanding of MRP (Oracle) and MS Office tools (Excel, Word).
- Knowledge of ISO 9002 Quality System / PED / API6DX / NACE certification programs.
- Experience with Lean/Six Sigma tools and techniques.
Preferred Skills
- Strong negotiation skills.
- Ability to lead change initiatives through persistence, self-motivation, and follow-through.
- Willingness to travel for supplier visits and project execution.
