The Unified Communications Engineering team at Comcast is seeking a Software Development Engineering Manager. The role involves leading a team of DevOps and software development engineers responsible for developing and operating real-time communication applications and platforms. These applications include VoIP softphone, conferencing, screen share, voicemail, call recording, and RESTful API services. The position also includes managing and guiding a team of developers ranging from junior to expert levels, focusing on scaling, optimizing, and improving the customer experience of the existing platform.
Team Leadership:
Hire, train, and mentor new employees, ensuring a diverse and high-performing team culture.
Provide technical leadership across the design process and offer guidance on best practices, procedures, and techniques.
Serve as a mentor for developers at varying levels of experience, from Junior to Senior.
Project Management:
Collaborate with project partners to identify product and technical requirements for real-time communication solutions.
Lead implementation initiatives for new software products, manage the roll-out of software updates, and ensure deadlines and specifications are met.
Provide regular updates to leadership regarding project progress, performance metrics, and milestones.
System & Process Development:
Design and oversee the development of backend components for real-time communication platforms.
Ensure the team continuously improves the platform using modern DevSecOps practices.
Collaborate across teams to improve product reliability, security, and customer experience.
Technology & Architecture:
Present and defend architectural and design decisions to internal audiences.
Focus on optimizing platform performance and scalability while maintaining a high-quality user experience.
Work with tools like AWS, OpenStack, VMware, and CI/CD tools (e.g., Concourse, Ansible, Terraform, Jenkins).
Client & Stakeholder Communication:
Effectively communicate complex technical issues to business stakeholders in an understandable manner.
Foster strong collaboration with both internal teams and external project partners.
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree (preferred) or equivalent work experience in a related field.
Experience:
5-7 years of relevant work experience in software development, DevOps, or a related role.
Experience in programming languages like Java, GoLang, or C/C++.
Hands-on experience with Open-Source Software and VoIP technologies, including SIP protocol.
Experience working with SQL and NoSQL databases and knowledge of information security and access control protocols.
Skills:
Ability to work in a matrixed environment and influence teams without formal authority.
Strong problem-solving, analytical, and prioritization skills.
Experience with system design, cloud infrastructures, and cultivating a DevSecOps culture.
Proficiency with CI/CD tools, and experience in managing cloud infrastructures such as AWS.
Additional Skills:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Experience managing geographically distributed teams (onshore/offshore).
Familiarity with the Software Development Lifecycle and a strong understanding of data security and privacy practices.
Agile Software Development:
Work in an agile environment with a bias for action and continuous improvement.
Use Github for revisions and collaborate with engineers passionate about solving complex problems.
