Position Overview
The Project Engineering Manager (PEM) will oversee the engineering activities of a project (or work package, in the case of large, complex projects) ensuring that quality, cost, and time delivery criteria are met. This role involves managing project design budgets, planning design activities, coordinating all engineering tasks, and ensuring technical solutions align with customer expectations. The PEM will be responsible for on-time and cost-effective design delivery, collaborating with internal teams, suppliers, and subcontractors.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management & Scope:
- Issue and consolidate provisional drawing lists, integrating submission dates.
- Manage the global time schedule of engineering activities, ensuring coherence between engineering and other project functions (procurement, construction, commissioning).
- Plan and manage delivery timelines for technical interfaces with partners, customers, and third-party contractors.
- Ensure on-time delivery of designs, anticipate potential issues, and coordinate activities to mitigate delays.
Leadership & Resources:
- Lead and coordinate design teams.
- Monitor the engineering budget, identify potential savings, and escalate the need for additional budget.
- Manage the workload and resource allocation for the design team, requesting resource arbitration when necessary.
- Organize and lead disciplinary and design reviews.
Risk & Strategy Management:
- Participate in project strategy development with the Project Manager (PM).
- Prepare and implement design strategies, including managing scope or design changes and related claims.
- Monitor project risks related to design and apply mitigation plans when required.
Customer & Documentation Management:
- Analyze customer technical requirements, ensuring compliance and tracking any exceptions.
- Represent customer interests in design decisions and coordinate responses to customer technical comments.
- Manage documentation, including validating design documents before final release to customers and tracking customer comments.
Design Expediting & Procurement:
- Prepare technical specifications for procurement and check design effectiveness against contract requirements.
- Support procurement teams during the equipment and materials procurement cycle, including reviewing technical offers and managing supplier documentation.
- Ensure compliance with applicable standards and regulations.
Construction & Site Support:
- Collaborate with the construction team to perform constructability analysis and support site preparation during the construction and commissioning stages.
- Coordinate the acquisition of input data for operations and maintenance (O&M) and as-built documentation.
Quality & Health & Safety:
- Ensure compliance with quality procedures, resolve non-conformances, and manage project documentation effectively.
- Demonstrate leadership in environmental, health, and safety (EHS) practices, ensuring that the Zero Deviation Plan is followed and corrective actions are implemented when needed.
Desired Qualifications & Experience

Education: Engineering degree or equivalent.

Experience:
- 8+ years in engineering management, with 2-4 years as a Project Engineering Manager in EPC-type environments within industries such as T&D, Power Generation, or Oil & Gas.
- Experience managing medium-sized projects with multiple interfaces and complex technical requirements.
- Expertise in managing multidisciplinary teams, coordinating multiple suppliers, and dealing with international environments.
- Strong technical problem-solving skills and experience in managing design and procurement teams.

Skills & Competencies:
- Proficiency in managing project risks and financial processes.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to succinctly communicate complex messages.
- Strong influencing and relationship-building skills.
- Fluent in English, with experience in technical leadership in international environments.
- Knowledge of Grid Solutions factories and products, with exposure to site visits, FAT, and construction stages.

- Willingness to travel internationally and work in different locations as needed.
- Experience in team building and knowledge capitalisation in project environments.
