Role Overview

As a Sales Engineer at Menlo Security, you will serve as a customer-focused, highly technical sales professional. You will provide expert guidance and support to prospective and current customers while collaborating closely with Territory Sales Managers and partner organizations to recommend and develop security-focused solution offerings. In this consultative role, you will be recognized as an IT Security expert by the account team, channel partners, and customers.


Key Responsibilities

  • Solution Architecture & Presentation:

    • Articulate the benefits of Menlo Security solutions for both technical and non-technical audiences.
    • Research technical requirements to scope and architect solutions that meet customer needs and budgets.
    • Understand customers’ business drivers and align them with Menlo Security offerings.
  • Proof of Concept (PoC) Engagements:

    • Lead PoC engagements for regional sales opportunities, including deployment and configuration of Menlo Security services or software.
    • Train customers on the use of Menlo Security solutions.
    • Serve as an interface between the Sales organization and technical teams to resolve outstanding issues.
  • Feedback & Reporting:

    • Provide regular reporting and feedback on customer accounts and field activities to Sales, Product Management, and Engineering teams.
  • Partner Enablement:

    • Collaborate closely with regional Menlo Security Partners to enable self-sufficiency and drive partner-led opportunities.
  • Customer Growth:

    • Work with customers to expand and integrate Menlo Security products within their environments.

Technical Focus Areas

The day-to-day role will involve deep technical engagements across various focus areas, including:

  • Web Proxy Technologies
  • Malware Analysis: Static, Delta, and Dynamic/Runtime approaches.
  • Host-based Forensics & Windows Internals
  • Network Forensics: Packet Capture and Analysis.
  • Email Security & Flow: Including cloud solutions, AV, and anti-spam.
  • Incident Response: Workflow procedures, evidence gathering, and chain of custody handling.
  • Sandboxing: Using open-source and commercial solutions (e.g., GFI, Cuckoo, Sandboxie).
  • Network Engineering & Security: Understanding the OSI model, IPv4/6, Routing, Switching, DNS, VLANs, Subnetting, Firewalls, IDS/IPS, and HTTP/SSL Proxies.
  • Enterprise Architecture: Active Directory, SCCM, LDAP, RADIUS, TACACS+, and two-factor authentication.
  • Virtualization Technologies: VMware, Citrix, and Virtual Desktop Infrastructure.

Note: Overnight travel throughout the region is required.


Additional Qualifications

  • Educational Background:

    • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience:

    • 5+ years of pre-sales experience in the computer networking or security space.
    • Excellent knowledge and hands-on experience with a wide variety of IT technologies and security solutions.
  • Leadership & Communication:

    • Strong leadership skills with the ability to independently prioritize and execute tasks.
    • Exceptional written and oral communication skills—able to articulate both business value and technical advantages.
    • Familiarity with Menlo Security competitors, including their solutions, strengths, weaknesses, and market positioning.
  • Security Expertise:

    • Familiarity with various hacking and exploitation tools and methodologies.
    • Knowledge of common malware families and evasion techniques for Anti-Virus/IDS/IPS.
