Role Overview

As a Senior Engineer in the Cloud Solutions Engineering team, you will play a key role in driving cloud adoption and enabling solutions for cloud-native application patterns across American Express Technologies. Working as part of a multi-cloud team, you will collaborate with various stakeholders to develop scalable and reusable solutions for business-critical capabilities and customer-facing applications.

Responsibilities:

• Cloud Strategy & Execution:
  Drive the next-generation hybrid cloud migration strategy, ensuring seamless execution and adoption across multiple cloud platforms.

• Developer Experience:
  Contribute to enhancing the developer experience on cloud platforms, ensuring optimal workflows and tools.

• Application Migration:
  Assess current application infrastructures and suggest modifications to optimize performance and cloud compatibility.

• Best Practices & Documentation:
  Define and document best practices for application migration, maintenance, and performance enhancement.

• Stakeholder Collaboration:
  Collaborate with stakeholders from platform, security, network, database, operations, and application teams to mitigate risks and align with cloud projects.

• Cloud Solutions Implementation:
  Work with technology vendors and cloud partners to implement innovative solutions for securing workloads in public cloud environments.

• Team Leadership & Mentorship:
  Lead and mentor teams of engineers, fostering collaboration and supporting continuous development efforts.

• Innovation & Experimentation:
  Identify and pursue opportunities to adopt new cloud technologies, enabling scalable solutions for both current and future challenges.

• Agile Collaboration:
  Work closely with product managers, platform engineers, and application engineers to deliver scalable, impactful solutions for complex, large-scale problems.

• Productivity & Efficiency:
  Optimize team productivity by analyzing workflows and ensuring faster, stronger results.

• Culture of Innovation:
  Lead a culture of innovation and experimentation, encouraging the team to embrace new concepts and learn from failures.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Experience:
  9+ years of professional experience in software development with hands-on expertise in cloud platforms such as AWS and GCP.

• Education:
  Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (advanced degree preferred).

• Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, JavaScript, Python, Go, or NodeJS.

  • Expertise in modern datastores like Redis, Couchbase, Cassandra, and PostgreSQL.

  • Experience in cloud-native application patterns, microservices architectures, and application migration.

  • Familiarity with containers, networking, storage, monitoring tools, and logging analytics tools (e.g., Splunk).

  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools like Jenkins and GitHub Actions.

  • Experience with Kubernetes, OpenShift, Docker, Envoy, and cloud technologies.

• Leadership Experience:
  Proven experience leading teams of engineers and guiding projects through execution.

• Problem-Solving & Collaboration:
  Strong problem-solving skills, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to work effectively in group settings.

• Communication Skills:
  Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly present technical solutions and lead discussions.

Desired Experience:

• Cloud Platforms Expertise:
  At least 3+ years of hands-on experience with AWS and/or GCP cloud platforms.

• Cloud Solutions Delivery:
  Leading cloud adoption, application onboarding, and cloud-native application patterns for large-scale, mission-critical applications.

• Team Leadership:
  Leading scrum teams and mentoring engineers to deliver innovative solutions.

• Innovation & Cloud Tech Adoption:
  Identifying opportunities to adopt emerging cloud technologies, balancing speed and time-to-market.
