About the Role
As a Software Engineer at American Express, you’ll be a key player in an agile team responsible for developing, deploying, and maintaining innovative technology solutions. You’ll contribute to a microservices-based architecture, leveraging modern tools and frameworks, and help shape the future of software at Amex.
Key Responsibilities
Software Development
-
Develop and maintain scalable, high-performance applications.

Write clean and efficient code primarily in Java; experience with Golang and Python is a plus.

Participate in code reviews and automated testing.

Debug and remediate complex software issues.

Enable and support automated deployments across test, integration, and production environments.

Design systems to auto-scale based on demand projections.
Leadership

Lead by example and drive improvements to existing processes.

Mentor and support less experienced engineers.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams and leaders to drive results.

What You'll Be Doing

Serve as a core member of an agile team using the latest development practices.

Write unit tests, build and work with APIs, and support automation strategies.

Work closely with global teams to build knowledge management solutions.

Identify and implement new technologies to solve business problems.
Qualifications & Experience
Required:
-
BS/MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
-
5+ years of professional software development experience (Java preferred).
-
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to translate business needs into technical solutions.
-
Proficiency in at least one 3rd or 4th generation programming language.
-
Solid grasp of Agile practices, microservices architecture, and CI/CD pipelines.
Preferred:
-
Experience with Golang, Python, Docker, K8s, Kafka, Cassandra, Postgres, and Spring Framework.
-
Knowledge of Event Sourcing, CQRS, and Hexagonal Architecture.
-
Background in cloud-centric development and infrastructure automation (e.g., Terraform).

Familiarity with DevOps tools and quality-focused engineering.
