About the Team:
The Flipkart Cloud Platform team is a dynamic blend of software development, networking, and systems engineering, focused on building and operating large-scale, highly distributed, fault-tolerant systems. These systems scale to tens of thousands of servers and hundreds of petabytes of storage across multiple data centers. You will tackle complex systems challenges at scale, breaking new ground with every project.
We are looking for a System Engineer to design, implement, maintain, and support our growing private cloud infrastructure. You will be part of a team responsible for designing and developing compute and storage systems, from hardware to operating systems and virtualization stacks, to meet business goals and SLAs. This role is within the Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) team of the Central Platforms Group (CPG).
About the Job:
- Build, manage, support, and monitor all installed hardware systems and infrastructure.
- Install, configure, test, and maintain hardware management systems, operating systems, containers, and virtualization stacks.
- Ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability.
- Review and influence new and evolving design, architecture, standards, and procedures for operating services and systems.
- Participate in software and system performance analysis and tuning, capacity planning, and demand forecasting.
- Manage the availability, scalability, security, and performance of our infrastructure and applications.
- Identify bottlenecks across the full stack, provide interim workarounds, and recommend long-term solutions.
Required Skills:
- Education: BS/MS degree in Computer Science or a related technical field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience: 2.5 to 5 years of professional experience (excluding internships).
- Technical Skills:
- Experience with system programming, tuning, and troubleshooting Unix/Linux operating systems.
- Exposure to the organization and performance tuning of storage systems.
- Strong understanding of networking and packet tracing.
- Proficient in system programming languages such as Go, Java, or C++, and strong scripting skills in Python/Bash.
- Ability to quickly learn new software, systems, and APIs.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills – you can fix anything.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Good to Have:
- Experience with virtualization or containerization systems (e.g., OpenStack, Kubernetes).
- Experience with network-attached storage systems (e.g., NVMeoF, iSCSI).
- Experience with server and storage hardware management systems (e.g., BMC, IPMI, Redfish).
