Position: Specialist – Database Administrator (SQL Server Administration)
Role Purpose:
Accelya's software powers the airline industry, and our applications depend on Microsoft SQL Server. As part of our insourcing initiative, we are seeking SQL Server Database engineers to maintain our applications' security, availability, performance, and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:

Design & Deployment: Architect and deploy configurations ensuring high availability during component or site failures.

Deployment Standards: Develop standards for deploying and configuring Microsoft SQL Server, along with dependencies (storage, OS, network).

Automation: Automate deployment, configuration, and operation for consistency and efficiency.

Monitoring & Health: Implement monitoring, alerting, and self-healing strategies to ensure the health of the SQL Server platform.

Security: Harden SQL Server instances to prevent data theft/ransom and comply with strict regulatory requirements.

Upgrades & Patches: Upgrade databases to new versions and deploy patches.

Collaboration & Training: Collaborate with software engineering teams and train wider teams on database deployment and management.
Experience, Knowledge & Skills Required:

SQL Server Expertise: Solid understanding of installing, configuring, and managing modern SQL Server versions.

High Availability & DR: Experience with clustering, Log Shipping, Always On, and backup/restore processes.

Security: Ability to secure database data and simplify audits.

Automation Tools: Experience with Terraform, Ansible, Puppet, Salt, Chef for automation.

Cloud Knowledge: Exposure to AWS or VMWare Cloud on AWS (training provided if needed).

Operational Support: Flexibility for out-of-hours support or shift work as needed.

Open-Source Databases: Knowledge of PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, MongoDB, Cassandra is advantageous but not essential.
